Deepfakes – a category of A.I.-generated video and audio applications – have been used in the entertainment and tech industries for years, and are now increasingly used by businesses. The tools are now available to create such virtual simulations quickly and inexpensively, without requiring a film crew and extensive post-editing.

However, it’s important to evaluate the use of deepfake video technology. In the past, deepfake technology has been primarily used in misinformation campaigns. And, it can exacerbate the current problems of the lack of human interaction and engagement. The technology should act as a supplement to human interaction rather than a replacement.

Some ways that businesses are currently successfully using deepfake technology include:

  • having the ability to translate video presentations into multiple languages, allowing the presenter to create one video that can then be used internationally;
  • personalized deepfake videos can be used for onboarding new employees, covering general information such as health insurance plans, office perks, and other company policies; and,
  • a deepfake video chatbot can replace the text-based chatbots currently in use to personalize customer interactions. Just as text-based chatbots are programmed, companies can record videos that will answer common customer questions, demonstrate products, and generate leads.
