Accelerated video training can be one of the best ways to provide on-demand, on-time training for your workers and clients. Modern audiences are accustomed to watching quick, insightful, and useful videos on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram Stories when they need information, and it makes good sense to incorporate aspects of it into training programs.

Traditional video shoots, though useful, do have a number of disadvantages.  Creating a traditional video can take up to six weeks to prepare and produce – greatly adding to the cost of production – while short, instructional videos may take less than three days to complete. One of the greatest advantages, however, is being able to incorporate user generated content in the training library.

User adoption is always a concern when creating training content. One way to combat this is to get your employees or users more involved. Let them share what they think is relevant and interesting via video submissions. Anyone can read a manual or guidebook, but it’s the hints and tips that truly create a one-on-one learning experience. By allowing users to film and submit their own videos, you can quickly build up a video content library of tasks specific to your organization and its processes, products, and more. Having the short training video clips available on an as-needed basis will also boost user adoption.

User generated content can be created with the following steps:

  1. Management prepares a shot list for the video. A shot list is assigned to a front line worker to capture video mini clips with their smartphone or other device;
  2. Management views and edits the shots, and saves them – sometimes inserting a short text explanation per mini clip;
  3. The instructional videos are made available to end users, who can access the clips relevant to their needs and specific task.
